Open Day 29th March - See how Thalatta's major refit is progressing! We are scheduled to be back on the water in 2009 with your generous continued help and support.

Preparing for Thalatta's Future

Thames Sailing Barge Thalatta has already passed her One Hundredth year since being first registered in 1906.

With generous support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and great help from Charities and others, the Project to refurbish her hull and other parts started in March 2006 at St Osyth Boatyard, Mill Street, St Osyth close to Clacton in Essex.

This Project will ensure that she enters her second century in the best possible condition enabling her to continue providing Five Days in Another World for all manner of young people.

The original estimated cost was £800,000 but because extra work is needed to replace damaged timbers on deck and in the accommodation area, the figure has now reached approximately £1.1Million.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to provide a supplementary grant for the extra work - so with their support and other donations from charities, other organisations and many, many individuals around 80% of the total cost has been raised so far; but East Coast Sail Trust needs to find an additional £187,000 from other sources this important Maritime Heritage may be completed.
